Fractal Triangle



Another fractal. It’s completely different, but the concept is very similar to the tree.

  1. Make a sphere
  2. Make three smaller ones, touching it, at 0, 120, and -120 degrees
  3. Repeat step 2 for each of these three until you can’t see them any more (in this case, 9 layers)

The red background is a plane, and the black is the shadow of the fractal. The light source is between us and the shape, so the shadow appears bigger than it is.

Also note that in step 3 above, each layer added will increase the computational load by a factor of 3. In other words, 10 layers will take about 3 times as long to draw as 9 layers.
