it’s been a while

Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

I’ve been busy.
First, we bought a house. It has been more work than anticipated, and I’ve been keeping busy fixing it up. It’s a nice house, or rather, will be when it’s finished. Right now, that looks to be a long time off.

Second, work has been busy. The company is refocusing […]

halfway electric

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

An electrician was at the house Thursday and Friday, cleaning up some of the wiring. Open splices, loose ends, ungrounded outlets, reverse polarity, and a couple screw-in fuses were on the menu. Also, a complete rework of the outside breaker panel was needed. All those were done, and done well, as far […]

Last night we spent much too long in stores, and not long enough in the house. We succeeded in spending a lot of money, and came home with a full load of door handles. I installed the deadbolt, securing the place from anyone who happened to have an old key.

Probably won’t install the […]

We got the house! We signed the papers and got the key on Friday, just before lunch. Been working on it (pulling up carpet mainly) all weekend.
Computer at home no worky, so more info coming later when I fix it.

After waiting way too long, something is happening. It’s been a month and a half of “maybe tomorrow something will happen” waiting.
Finally, the title for the house is clear. Now it’s just a matter of the mortgage bank getting papers to the title company, and the title company getting its papers […]

no house

Friday, July 16th, 2004

Still no house.
The title company in Houston is waiting for the county tax office in Dallas, for the house in Longview, being sold by the mortgage company in Houston.
And we don’t know when it will all be over.

Well, the house purchase is still in progress. We’ve worked out a deal with another bank, and another insurance company. It’s going to cost us more money up front, to get a loan for this “fixer-upper”, that we were hoping, but we’ve made it. Ideally, we’ll be closing the deal around the […]

State Farm

Friday, June 4th, 2004

Now add State Farm to the list. They won’t insure the house, because it has some issues. The wiring is sub-standard, and a few shingles are off the roof.

To buy the house, I have to insure it.
To insure it, I have to repair it.
To repair it, I have to own it.
To […]

Fannie Mae

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

I don’t like Fannie Mae right now. We’re trying to buy a house. Everything looked to be in place, and kaboom! it’s not any more. Here’s the deal:

The appraisal on the house was “fair” condition.
The bank we’re using resells their loans to Fannie Mae.
Fannie Mae doesn’t like houses without good appraisals.
The bank […]

I’ve been pretty quiet lately, and there’s a good reason for it. We’re buying a house. Things are still on the undecided side of the fence right now. We have a contract with the seller, but we have a couple days to have inspectors convince us otherwise.
We have been looking […]
